You don’t need to be in an office to do deep, effective trauma work. Virtual EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy for trauma and distressing life experiences — and research has consistently shown that EMDR is just as effective online as it is in person. With the right support, it can even feel more accessible, more empowering, and more respectful of your privacy.

At Serendipity Psychotherapy, I offer virtual EMDR to clients across Arizona in a way that is relational, trauma-informed, and paced with care. Whether you're working through a single incident or the long ripple effects of complex trauma, I tailor your treatment to meet you exactly where you are — emotionally and literally.

Why Virtual EMDR Can Be So Powerful

One of the most common things clients say after starting virtual EMDR is, “I didn’t expect it to be this effective.” Doing trauma work from the safety of your own environment often allows for more regulation, emotional availability, and deeper integration. You’re not worried about parking, crying in public, or walking past other people on your way out. Instead, you get to sink into the work with more freedom, more privacy, and more grounding.

In fact, I’ve seen some of the most fluid emotional releases and breakthroughs happen in virtual sessions, not in spite of being remote, but because clients feel safer in their own space. When your nervous system doesn’t have to stay in presentation mode, it’s more open to doing the work.

What EMDR Helps With

EMDR is designed to help your brain and body reprocess distressing or traumatic experiences so they no longer hold the same emotional charge. We use bilateral stimulation (often in the form of eye movements through a software program or tapping on the knees) to help the brain rewire how it stores those memories. EMDR is not about erasing memories or never feeling uncomfortable emotion ever again; it's about categorizing memory in a more adaptive, less overwhelming frame.

Virtual EMDR can help with:
  • PTSD and complex trauma
  • Religious trauma and spiritual abuse
  • Childhood neglect or attachment wounds
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Medical trauma or grief-related trauma
  • Distressing memories that still feel “too close”

Whether it’s one clear event or years of subtle emotional pain, EMDR can help bring more distance, clarity, and calm to what used to feel like chaos inside.

What a Virtual EMDR Session Is Like

Virtual EMDR sessions are structured, supported, and guided carefully at every stage. We’ll start with resourcing and regulation tools to make sure you feel equipped to navigate the work. When it’s time to begin reprocessing, we use bilateral stimulation that works just as well over video, whether that’s tracking visuals on your screen, guided tapping, or auditory stimulation.

You’ll never be left alone with big emotions. I stay with you through each phase of the work. Because EMDR can activate intense material, we take our time, check in often, and adjust the process to fit what your system can actually tolerate. This isn’t push-through therapy. It’s real, steady healing.
